We are so amped to announce we are returning to The Wave, Bristol, for the 2021 dryrobe English Adaptive Surfing Open, to be held on Thursday 8th July. After showcasing the venue’s potential at the 2020 korev lager English Adaptive Surfing Open, we cannot wait to return for an even bigger event, as we welcome adaptive surfers from across the globe through the doors.
The Wave is the official high performance training centre for Team England, and the Adaptive crew are often found shredding on the lake’s glassy waves. The Wave have also been instrumental in developing adaptive surfing in England, supporting Surfing England for the last 4 years to establish a contest which is now highly respected at a global level.
The core contest heats of the 2021 dryrobe English Adaptive Surfing Open will take place on the Advanced setting at The Wave, and surfers will be scored on their rides on both the left and right side of the lake. Competition will take place between 9am and 6/7pm, with presentations to follow and a relaxed social gathering to end the day.
New to 2021, we are hugely excited to introduce a new Waikiki Participation Session. This is where we welcome adaptive surfers who are above beginner level, but may not yet be confident enough to compete, to come along, surf and experience the day at the event and become familiar with the workings of surf competitions. This will take place on The Wave’s Waikiki setting – a gentle, spilling green wave. Volunteers will be on hand to support with water safety. This is a fantastic opportunity to start learning to ride green waves and also check out the contest and inspire the future of adaptive surfers. This session will take place 12-1pm on Thursday 8th July.

Spectators and supporters are required to book a spectator pass (£2) via The Wave website.
Entry Information
For the core 2021 English Adaptive Surfing Open (advanced wave riding), entry will cost £30 per division entered. Entries will CLOSE on Monday 28th June at 12pm.
The Waikiki Participation session will also cost £30 and will run 12-1pm on Thursday 8th July.

Information for Volunteers for Thursday 8th July
We are looking for volunteers with experience in adaptive surfing/relevant transferable skills to support the delivery of the event on Thursday 8th July. For more information on volunteering, and to complete the form to sign up, click here.
Accommodation at The Wave
The Camp at The Wave has recently opened, and the safari tents have been reserved for the competitors on the nights of Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th July. Tents hold up to 6-8 people and are made up of a double bed, 2 bunk beds and a double sofa bed, and all 25 safari tents are accessible, with 2 being specifically DDA compliant set up (More info: https://stay.thewave.com/the-tents/). The cost of a tent is £150 per tent per night, there is a 2 night minimum stay of the 7th and 8th July. Tents have been kept off sale to allow entry for the event to open and will go on sale via https://stay.thewave.com/ on Friday 11th June at 10am – it will be a first come first basis so we strongly recommend being online and booking immediately.
Booking supported practice sessions and additional surf sessions at The Wave
It is important when booking any additional surf sessions that surfers understand The Wave and its adaptive processes and support networks, outlined below.
For surfers that do not require additional support in the water: you are welcome to book any surf session on any date via www.thewave.com – a 10% competitors’ concession can be applied with code ‘Adaptive10’. You are also welcome to book in to the supported practice session detailed below, however please be advised that capacity is limited and those requiring support will have preferential booking for this.
For surfers that do require additional support in the water: The Wave have 2 private supported sessions available to competitors on the Advanced wave at 3pm (right) and 5pm (left) on Wednesday 7th July. These sessions will be staffed in the water with support, and are for competitors only, any competitor can sign up to either or both sessions however those needing additional support will receive preferential booking for these sessions. To book your place on either or both sessions please email jack.bolton@thewave.com to request and include detail of the support required as well as your full name and DOB. The cost of each session is standard session rate £50 (before athlete concession). The Wave are unable to offer additional support outside of these sessions, therefore supported surfers are only able to surf additional sessions should they arrange additional volunteer support by those approved to do so in the lake (please notify Jack of any additional sessions booked and details of the approved volunteers).
